INKBERROW CUP WALKING FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

Solihull Moors Over 50s Lift Inkberrow Walking Football Cup After Superb Tournament Display

Sunday 28th June 2026

Solihull Moors Over 50s produced a fantastic display of walking football to be crowned Inkberrow Walking Football Cup champions after an unbeaten tournament, culminating in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Alcester in the final.

The Moors combined quality football, determination and outstanding team spirit throughout the day, overcoming some strong opposition to deservedly lift the trophy.

A Dramatic Start

The opening group match against Birmingham looked to be slipping away as Solihull Moors trailed 1-0 with just two minutes remaining.

Despite creating numerous chances and striking both posts as well as the underside of the crossbar, it looked as though luck wasn’t on the Moors’ side. Then came an incredible finish.

Ricky Hopgood took centre stage, scoring twice in the closing moments to turn defeat into a remarkable 2-1 victory and give the Moors the perfect start to the tournament.

Professional Performance Against Shrewsbury

The second group game saw Solihull Moors take on a physical and well-organised Shrewsbury side.

Excellent game management proved to be the difference, with the Moors remaining patient and disciplined throughout. Ricky Hopgood once again proved the match winner, calmly converting two penalties to secure another 2-0 victory and guarantee momentum heading into the final group match.

Dominant Display Seals Group Victory

Confidence was flowing by the third group game against Stratford Town, and Solihull Moors produced arguably their best football of the tournament.

Passing was slick, movement was excellent and the team controlled possession for long periods. Goals from Ricky Hopgood and Brendan Maxwell sealed a comfortable 2-0 win, ensuring the Moors progressed to the final with three victories from three matches.

Cup Final Glory

The final against Alcester proved to be an entertaining contest, with the final score of 3-2 perhaps suggesting a closer game than it actually was.

Solihull Moors created the better chances throughout and played some outstanding football, although a number of questionable decisions helped keep Alcester in the contest until the closing stages.

Martin Sibley opened the scoring before Brendan Maxwell doubled the advantage with another well-taken finish. Ricky Hopgood then added his fifth goal of the tournament to give the Moors a crucial third goal.

Although Alcester pulled two goals back, Solihull Moors remained composed and managed the closing moments brilliantly to secure a deserved 3-2 victory and lift the trophy.

Champions Once Again

Throughout the tournament, Solihull Moors demonstrated exactly what makes them such a strong side. Their attacking football, resilience and never-say-die attitude were evident from the opening game right through to the final whistle.

After coming from behind dramatically in the opening match, professionally managing difficult opponents and producing some outstanding football, the Over 50s deservedly finished the day as Inkberrow Walking Football Cup champions.
