SOLIHULL MOORS 5 Vs BIRMINGHAM BLUES WFC 1

BIRMINGHAM LEAGUE OVER 65s | 04.02.2026

Solihull Moors Over 65s get top spot in the Birmingham League with an impressive 5–1 victory over Birmingham Blues Walking Football, with just three games of the season remaining.

The win proved even more significant as title rivals Coleshill Town WFC were held to a 2–2 draw by Burntwood, allowing Moors to be at the summit of the league on goal difference.

Moors set the tone early, deploying Mark Jones as the focal point up front, a tactical move that paid immediate dividends. His intelligent link-up play caused problems for the Birmingham Blues defence and helped Moors race into a 2–0 lead, both goals finished clinically by Captain Marvel, Graham Liddiard, who showed composure and sharp movement in the final third.

Just when Birmingham were looking to settle, they were dealt another blow with the introduction of the league’s most prolific scorer of the past two seasons — Brendan Mulcahy. Living up to his reputation, “Mulcahy the Machine” made an instant impact, firing home a superb brace to put the result firmly beyond doubt.

The scoring was completed in spectacular fashion by John McGinnell, whose thunderous strike flew into the roof of the net to cap an excellent attacking display.

Birmingham Blues, as always, proved to be competitive and well organised, and were rewarded with a goal from the penalty spot, ensuring they remained a stern test throughout the contest.

Overall, it was another outstanding team performance from Solihull Moors — clinical in attack, disciplined in possession, and fully deserving of their place at the top of the league as the season enters its decisive final stages.
