SOLIHULL MOORS 3 Vs BIRMINGHAM WALKING FC 2
BIRMINGHAM LEAGUE PREMIER | 18.01.2026
Solihull Moors showed real character and resilience to secure a dramatic 3–2 victory over Birmingham Walking Football Club in the Birmingham Premier League on a cold, rain-soaked afternoon.
In just his second game at the helm, Phil Clinton watched his side start brightly, setting the tempo early against a spirited and well-organised Birmingham team. Moors moved the ball well from the outset and were rewarded when Ricky Hopgood opened the scoring with a low, driven finish that gave the Birmingham goalkeeper no chance.
Despite Moors controlling much of the play, the game swung dramatically three minutes before half-time. Birmingham capitalised on a brief lapse to score twice in quick succession, turning a 1–0 Moors lead into a 2–1 advantage for the visitors at the break.
The second half saw Solihull Moors push forward with real intent, pinning Birmingham back for long periods. While Birmingham remained dangerous on the counter-attack, Moors’ pressure continued to build as chances came and went.
With just four minutes remaining, Moors’ persistence finally paid off. Captain Mark Appleby kept his composure in the box, slotting home the equaliser to lift the home side and spark a late surge.
Straight from the restart, Moors sensed an opportunity. Under intense pressure, Birmingham struggled to clear their lines as the ball broke to Ricky Hopgood, whose powerful strike evaded the overworked goalkeeper to complete a dramatic turnaround and secure the win.
The victory sees Solihull Moors move into top position heading into the final four-team round-robin stage — a testament to their determination, belief and growing momentum under new leadership.
