Mark Jones

Mark Jones — known to everyone as Jonesy — brings a wealth of life experience, character and footballing knowledge to Solihull Moors Walking Football Club. After more than 35 years as an airline pilot, Mark reached the mandatory retirement age of 65 in January 2025, opening up a new chapter in his life focused on family, fitness and football.

With more time to enjoy the game he loves, Mark now balances walking football with supporting his three sons, who all work in the agricultural sector. A self-described “born-again footballer,” Mark played extensively during his twenties before a knee injury at the age of 29 forced him away from the game. Around eleven years ago, he returned to football and quickly rediscovered his passion.

Mark went on to represent several local sides before playing in the Welsh League for Connah’s Quay Nomads, where he enjoyed notable success. During his time with the Nomads, the team won the National Championships in two consecutive seasons — a period that also saw him become teammates with John McGinnell, a connection that has since continued at Solihull Moors.

A lifelong Manchester United supporter, Mark enjoys a traditional Sunday roast, and keeps active by playing padel tennis and going hiking. His experience, calm presence and enthusiasm make him a valued and respected member of the Moors family.
