Simple One-Touch Passing Drills for Walking Football

One-touch passing is one of the most effective ways to improve speed of play, accuracy and teamwork in walking football. Because the sport is played at a controlled pace, quick passing becomes an essential tool for breaking down defences, keeping possession and creating space. These simple one-touch drills are perfect for any level of player and can be used in warm-ups, training sessions or small-group practices.

Why One-Touch Passing Matters in Walking Football

Walking football relies heavily on:

  • Quick decision-making

  • Ball control under pressure

  • Movement and positioning

  • Team coordination

One-touch passing strengthens all of these skills. It helps players learn to read the game earlier, communicate better and move the ball efficiently without unnecessary touches.

Drill 1: One-Touch Passing in Pairs

Set-up:
Two players stand 5–8 yards apart.

How it works:

  • Pass the ball back and forth using one touch only.

  • Focus on hitting the correct weight of pass.

  • Swap to weaker feet after one minute.

Benefits:
Improves basic control, consistency and confidence.

Drill 2: Triangle One-Touch Passing

Set-up:
Create a triangle with three cones, each 5 yards apart. One player stands on each cone.

How it works:

  • Pass clockwise around the triangle using one touch each time.

  • Increase tempo gradually.

  • Change direction after two minutes.

Benefits:
Develops awareness, angles of play and first-time passing.

Drill 3: Moving One-Touch Wall Pass

Set-up:
Player A has the ball. Player B stands 3–4 yards ahead of them.

How it works:

  • Player A walks toward Player B and plays a one-touch wall pass.

  • After receiving the return, A continues walking and repeats the drill.

  • Swap roles after one minute.

Benefits:
Builds timing, movement and combination play.

Drill 4: Four-Corner Passing Square

Set-up:
Four cones form a square, with players positioned one per cone.

How it works:

  • Ball moves around the square using one-touch passes.

  • Add a second ball to increase difficulty.

  • Rotate players after each round.

Benefits:
Enhances team rhythm, passing tempo and communication.

Tips for Successful One-Touch Training

  • Start slowly and build speed naturally.

  • Stay balanced to avoid accidental running.

  • Focus on accuracy, not power.

  • Talk constantly — communication improves success.

  • Keep movements predictable for teammates.

Why These Drills Work

These drills are simple, effective and suitable for any group size. They improve the essential skills that walking football relies on: quick thinking, good positioning, teamwork and controlled passing. With regular practice, players become more composed, more efficient and more confident on the ball — qualities that translate directly to match day.
