Colin Yates is a relative newcomer to Solihull Moors Walking Football Club, but he has quickly become a valued member of the squad thanks to his enthusiasm, positivity and love of the game. He enjoys both the training sessions and competitive match play, embracing walking football as a way to stay active, social and connected to the sport he has always loved.
Before joining the club, Colin worked in the arts and education sector for over 30 years, using the beautiful game as a recurring subject in his creative practice and educational work within schools and community projects. His artwork, which reflects football culture and identity, can be viewed at www.colinyatesart.com.
Colin has also had the honour of representing the England Kicking Cancer Walking Football team, recently taking part in the World Nations Cup tournament in Spain. In addition, he plays for the TLH Kicking Cancer team, a mixed-age and mixed-ability side that supports people living with, or in remission from, cancer — using football as a powerful tool for wellbeing and connection.
On the pitch, Colin plays mainly in midfield or defence, bringing calmness, reliability and teamwork to every game. His favourite player is George Best, and away from football he enjoys art, sport and travel.
Colin’s journey reflects the inclusive, supportive spirit of walking football — both on and off the pitch.
