Charity Match Raises Funds for Solihull Moors Foundation – Supporting Football for Children with Down Syndrome

On Thursday, October 5th, our usual training session took on a whole new meaning as Solihull Moors Walking Football Club dedicated the evening to raising funds for the Solihull Moors Foundation. This particular event focused on supporting the Foundation’s Football for Children with Down Syndrome programme, an initiative that provides inclusive footballing opportunities for young people who benefit greatly from structured, supportive sporting environments.

To mark the occasion, players from across our squads were split into two special teams. The first was True Blue, made up entirely of passionate Birmingham City supporters, while the second team represented the Rest of Moors, bringing together players from various age groups and backgrounds. Each player contributed a minimum of £5.00 to take part, ensuring that every kick truly counted toward the fundraising effort.

A special acknowledgment goes to Brendan Maxwell, who, despite being unable to attend the event, made a generous donation to the cause. His contribution, along with the enthusiasm of those who played, helped reinforce the strong community spirit within our club.

The match itself was played with great energy, friendly competitiveness and plenty of smiles. Both sides showcased excellent teamwork and determination, but it was True Blue who edged the win with a 2–1 victory. While the result sparked plenty of good-natured banter among the players, the true triumph of the evening was the positive impact made for the Foundation.

Thanks to the collective efforts of everyone involved, the event successfully raised £150. This donation will directly support children with Down Syndrome in accessing football sessions designed to build confidence, coordination, and joy through the sport.

It was a memorable night for all and a reminder of how football can bring people together to make a real difference.
