A fantastic crowd gathered on Sunday afternoon to watch a unique charity fixture as Solihull Moors’ England and Ireland squads faced off in support of Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The game delivered an exciting and competitive display, with both sides showing great spirit and determination throughout.
Peter Hurrell’s England team settled quickest and took control of the match, eventually securing a 3–1 victory. Goals came from Graham Liddiard, Mike Woodcraft, and Mahboob Hussaine, each finishing confidently after well-worked attacking moves. Ireland, managed by Keith Batty, battled strongly and were rewarded when Edu Olguin struck a well-taken goal, keeping the contest alive.
Although England emerged as winners on the pitch, the real triumph of the day was the incredible £700 raised for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The generosity of players, supporters and volunteers made this one of the most successful charity matches held by the club.
A special thank you goes to Ian Brennan, who officiated the match and helped ensure the event ran smoothly from start to finish. It was a memorable occasion that showcased competitive football, strong camaraderie and a shared commitment to supporting a truly worthwhile cause.

Match 2: Solihull Moors WFC 3 – Blackwood 2
Wednesday 19th December 2023 | 19:00 Kick-Off
Just four days later, Solihull Moors Walking Football Club returned to action for their second charity fixture of the week, again supporting the fundraising efforts for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Despite the busy schedule, the team produced another impressive performance, defeating a strong Blackwood side 3–2.
Solihull Moors took an early lead when Paul Clarke finished superbly after excellent build-up play from Bill Tiwana and Martin Geddes. Blackwood equalised, but Moors regained the advantage thanks to a brilliant long-range strike from Brendan Mulcahy. The visitors responded again to make it 2–2 before half-time.
In the second half, Moors pushed forward with renewed determination. A clever assist from Andy Powers set up Paul Clarke for his second of the evening, sealing the 3–2 victory. The defence and midfield worked tirelessly to protect the lead, and Neil Coles came close to adding a fourth with a powerful effort from the right.
This fixture pushed the club’s total fundraising for Birmingham Children’s Hospital to over £1,000, reflecting the remarkable generosity and community spirit of everyone involved.
